Monday, April 30, 1973 SR Girl Found In Woods By Staff Correspondent FORT BRAGG-An 8-year-old Santa Rosa girl was found yesterday at 3:20 p.m. after she had wandered lost in the woods more than four hours with her little black dog.

Kari Lisa Nordby was reported missing at 1 p.m. by her mother, Paula June Nordby, after a two-hour search by family and friends failed to locate the child. Growers Told To Talk to Plants SOHAM, England (UPI) Seed salesman Jack Boyce has a word for growers--have a word with the buds and blossoms. Boyce said in leaflets handed to customers today that talking plants helps produce bumper yields. "Chat up your tulips," he said.

"Have a gossip with your cabbages and brussel sprouts. And don't forget to say 'good morning' to your potatoes." Plants respond to love, Boyce said. "I'm not nutty," he said. "A great deal of scientific work has been done on this in America. Sweet -talking to plants has th same effect as when two teen lovers get together and hold hands in the moonlight.

It brings them into their full blossom." Eighth HRD Working With SR School Counselors The Santa Rosa city schools system is one of 30 school districts throughout the state involved in a pilot project designed to prepare high school students for the "world of work." Under the program, the State Department of Human Resources Development is workingwith high school counselors on occupational guidance that will assist students before they find themselves out of school and out of work. In Santa Rosa, Helen Perks has been assigned by the HRD office to work half time in the district's high schools.

She has been conferring with vocational education teachers, work experience coordinators, and counselors to identify priority needs. "This experimental program is being tested as part of our efforts to improve the employment picture in said Earl Brian, Health and Welfare secretary. "Too many young people are graduating from high schools with little or no knowledge about the labor market, their skills or their worth. These young people need good advice on jobs entry level jobs, job requirements, employer expectations, promotional opportunitis, the rights of employers, the rights of the worker, and advice on programs with direct links to occupations. "HRD is capable of providing this information to the schools, to help young people move more effectively into worthwhile careers." he stated.

All of the schools involved are expected to have programs underway for the fall semester, at the latest, according to Benjamin Hargrave, HD deputy director in charge of the program. If the pilot program proves successful, a permanent program could be established through cooperative venture between HRD, the State Department of Education and local edlucational agencis.
