She retired in 1984 because of Self-defense ruled in shooting death By Mackenzie Carpenter Post-Gazette Staff Writer The coroner's office, concluding that Derick Hampton of Versailles was acting in self-defense in the Aug.

3 shooting death of an Elizabeth Township man, dismissed homicide charges against him yesterday. Dennis R. Musisko, 39, of Park Avenue died of a gunshot wound after a struggle with Hampton, 20, over a gun. "Unless there's some other fact that's not been presented, we've got a case of self-defense," Deputy Coroner Arthur Gilkes said at the conclusion of a two-hour preliminary hearing. Gilkes' official ruling was that the manner in which Musisko died "was undetermined." Hampton is being held in the county jail on $100,000 bond for an unrelated case in which he is charged Inquest spurs homicide charge in baby's death By Mackenzie Carpenter Post-Gazette Staff Writer The coroner's office ruled yesterday that there was sufficient evidence to support a homicide charge against a Squirrel Hill man in the death of his 9-month-old stepdaughter.

Deputy Coroner Arthur Gilkes ruled at an inquest that Daren Browdie, 23, of 5813 Hobart St. be held on a homicide charge in the July 21 death of Lindsay Whitaker, daughter of Browdie's wife, Shannon. Browdie, who was arrested Aug. 11, had been released prior to the inquest on $25,000 bond. Dr.

John C. Hiserodt, a pathologist with the coroner's office, found the death was caused by "some combination of blunt force, a punch, punches to the chest, hard squeezing. During yesterday's hearing, a police detective testified that Browdie, a clerk at the Phar-Mor video store on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill, told police that he "hurt or abused the baby because he was frustrated" by her crying. with statutory rape, corrupting the morals of a minor and simple assault. Musisko's body was found at 4:48 a.m.

in the Blair Heights housing project in Clairton. Hampton, 20, of Chestnut Street was arrested Aug. 8 and charged in the shooting. Prosecutors cited a finding by pathologist Dr. Abdulrezzak Shakir that the bullet had entered from behind and exited from the stomach.

DLUGONSKI When the baby fussed, Browdie told police, he grabbed her sides and squeezed her, Detective Robert McCabe testified. In one instance, when the baby rejected his attempts to feed her by bottle, Browdie told police he held the bottle in the baby's mouth until she had a seizure, McCabe said.

On the morning of July 21, Browdie told police he awoke around 11:45 a.m. to go to the bathroom. He told police that after he heard Lindsay crying, he held her tightly to his chest until she stopped breathing, but then put her back in the crib and went to bed. Browdie's lawyer, Reich, questioned McCabe's testimony, saying that in written and taped statements to police his client never admitted wrongdoing or that he intentionally meant to hurt the baby. Reich also said Hiserodt's testimony was not conclusive because 1 it did not specify whether the baby's injuries were caused by a blow, a fall or squeezing.

Trolley service disrupted An old-fashioned, 1940s-style trolley jumped the track near the Castle Shannon Municipal Building at 7:15 a.m. yesterday, pulling down overhead wiring and disrupting service between Castle Shannon and South Hills Junction for more than five hours.

Service was not restored until 12:30, and in the interim PAT had to use six shuttle buses to provide service on the so-called Valley line. Light rail service on the Library, Beechview-Mt. Lebanon and South Hills Village routes was unaffected. The cause of the derailment is under investigation. None of the five passengers on the derailed trolley was injured, but the operator, Gerald Niggel, was shaken up and taken to St.

Clair Hospital for treatment. Cocaine seized in raid City detectives from the Office of Organized Crime, Narcotics and Intelligence capped an eight-month investigation last night with the arrest of a Brookline man in his home and the seizure of three kilos of cocaine and $13,000 in currency. Hankins twice filed lawsuits himself in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh. Each time he argued that he was denied his constitutional rights to due process and of access to the courts because Walker has not ruled on the motion he filed in July 1980. Federal judges dismissed both cases. In the first case in 1985, the late Judge Gerald Weber apparently confused Hankins' claims in the lawsuit with a separate case he filed in 1984, the appeals court said.

Hankins did not appeal Weber's ruling. He filed a second lawsuit in U.S. District Court in February 1990. Notices and Robert survived by his nephews. Family viewing hours.
