Philadelphia Eagles: DI Milton Williams. Williams, a former third-round pick, has been one of the best rotational interior defenders in the entire NFL over the past two seasons. While his 968 snaps over that period rank just 64th at the position, his 73.2 PFF overall grade places 32nd. Williams was playing the best football of his career before an injury in 2023, with his 77.6 overall grade between Weeks 5 and 11 ranking 14th among interior defenders.

With all the free agent signings and trades, along with their many draft picks, Howie Roseman admitted that they’d have a much smaller UDFA class this year. Initially they only signed seven undrafted free agents, with Roseman explaining that they prioritized other roster moves this offseason — alluding to the (lack of) overall depth in this year’s draft class. Noah Togiai is no stranger to the Eagles using him to make room on the roster, and has been signed, added to the practice squad, elevated, and released several times since the 2021 season. He’s someone who might be a free agent right now, but is almost assuredly in the team’s plan to bring back if they need depth at tight end.

Linebacker is pretty clearly the shakiest positional group on the roster, which isn’t out of the ordinary for the Eagles. I don’t think they’ll add anyone really notable there though, with Dean and White penciled in as the starters, and a mix some vets with experience and rookie Jeremiah Trotter behind them. On a side note, one of the Eagles’ offseason signings was Zack Baun, who played both on the edge and at off-ball linebacker for the Saints. Because he played a lot more on the edge, the general feeling was that he would primarily play there in Philly as well. However, Vic Fangio said last Thursday that he’ll play off-ball linebacker. We’ve got [Zack] Baun here who’s played a little bit of inside linebacker in New Orleans,” Fangio said when asked about the linebacker group. “He really didn’t play a whole lot of defense there, but he was inside some, more outside. We think he can play inside, and I have not seen anything so far that says otherwise.” Interestingly, Baun was the first player Fangio mentioned, before getting to White, Dean, and the others. As for safety, yes, as noted in our post-draft “remaining holes to fill” post, I think the Eagles will add a fourth safety at some point.

Roster Guess #1 - Iggles Blitz
WR – 5 – AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Parris Campbell, Ainias Smith, Britain Covey. This is the first spot where things start to get interesting. Do the Eagles keep 5 or 6 WRs? Do they keep Parris Campbell or DeVante Parker? Does Johnny Wilson have a realistic shot at a spot? I’m guessing Campbell makes it over Parker. The Eagles have a pair of stud receivers to play on the outside. Campbell has the experience to play in the slot. He also has the speed to play outside if needed. He was with Nick Sirianni in 2019 and 2020 in Indy. The Eagles liked him prior to the draft. Parker is the bigger name, but Campbell might prove to be the better fit. There is a possibility of putting either Parker or Campbell on the practice squad and then calling them up as needed. I think Wilson is ideal for the practice squad. It will give him time to develop as a receiver and for the coaches to see if they think he can contribute on STs.

5. Philadelphia Eagles. Post-FA ranking: 7. Most improved: Secondary. The Eagles signed C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency to bolster the safety spot and then used their first two picks in April’s draft on defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. All told, they could have three new starters in the defensive backfield this season. Philadelphia finished 31st in passing touchdowns allowed last season with 35. With corners Darius Slay and James Bradberry both north of 30 years old, the Eagles needed to address the corner position for the short and long term, and they accomplished that this offseason.

If you’re not, allow his older brother, James Shipley, to explain. “I think part of it is that he always had to play up,” Shipley said last week. “Being so competitive and losing so much at a young age probably drives a lot of what he is today.” The Eagles clearly value competitiveness and they thought enough of Will Shipley to take him in the fourth round (No. 127 overall) in last month’s draft. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wants his players to compete in everything they do. It’s why he challenges draft prospects to games of H-O-R-S-E and it’s why we’ve heard about those Rock-Paper-Scissors showdowns.

Dallas Cowboys to visit Cleveland Browns in Week 1 on FOX with Tom Brady on call - Blogging The Boys

Brady begins his first season as an analyst for FOX Sports this fall and the former quarterback — and recent Netflix roastee — now knows where he will be for Week 1. Brady will be on the call for the network as the Cleveland Browns host the Dallas Cowboys to kick off their regular-season schedule. Andrew Marchand, who covers sports media for The Athletic, was at the network’s “upfronts” presentation Monday, which featured Brady. Marchand sent out this post on social media indicating that Brady’s first game would be a “Cowboys’ game in the late Sunday window.”

Rebuilding the New York Giants offensive line has proven to be a Sisyphean task over the last decade or so. It seems that no matter what the Giants’ front office — be it under Jerry Reese, Dave Gettleman, or Joe Schoen — and coaching staff did, they could never quite put that task behind them. Case in point, Pro Football Focus currently ranks the Giants’ offensive line as the weakest in the NFL. Despite Joe Schoen signing five (5) offensive linemen in free agency.

Eventually, the Commanders should find success; whether it comes immediately in Daniels’ rookie season or slightly later in his career remains to be seen. Looking at the relative success of the Cardinals’ ‘20 and ‘21 seasons, I think that Kingsbury will be trying to slightly suppress the No. 5’s instinct to run himself out of trouble. If Kliff can call plays that get his team to the benchmark of 6,000+ total yards — split about 66/34 passing:rushing — while keeping Daniels to less than 500 rushing yards, that’s the style of football that would be consistent with Kingsbury’s most successful seasons with the Cardinals and Kyler Murray. If he can manage to get the burgundy & gold into the top-12 scoring offenses in the league while doing it, as he did with the Cardinal red in 2020-21, then the Commanders will have the opportunity to make some noise.
