FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I use boneless pork chops?

I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.

What can I serve with pork chops?

My absolute favorite side dish with this is mashed potatoes. Rice or egg noodles are also good. I also like to serve it with some steamed vegetables. (like broccoli or carrots) and maybe some Butter Swim Biscuits!

Can I cook this high?

I don’t recommend cooking on high. The meat will not come out as tender. Cooking it low and slow will ensure fall-apart tender pork chops.

Can I use a different cream soup?

You can pretty much us any cream soup your family enjoys. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of onion, cream of mushroom and chicken will all work here.

Should I salt and pepper the pork chops?

You could definitely season with pepper but I don’t recommend salt as there is enough salt in the other ingredients.

Can I use fat-free or low sodium options?

Where applicable, you could certainly substitute with those options. I prefer low sodium options here because we’re also using packets of pork gravy and onion soup mix which also have sodium in them.

Do I need to thicken the gravy?

It’s totally optional but I really think the gravy works better when thickened.

Can I use a round crock pot instead of oval?

I find this recipe works better in an oval slow cooker instead of a round one.The chops cook more evenly.

How do I store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container and put into the refrigerator. Eat within two days. I don’t recommend freezing leftovers.

We love this recipe! So easy, but tastes so good! The pork chops are so tender they are falling apart. We love it over rice or noodles.

I’m playing Mr Mom while my wife is down after surgery. I found this while desperately looking for easy meals. It’s awesome! The chops fell apart on the fork and melted in our mouths. Now everybody thinks Daddy can cook.

Delicious, as always! I used thick cut bone-in pork chops, cream of chicken soup with mushrooms and fresh sliced mushrooms added about two hours before the end. The thick chops did require a full six hours, but it was worth it — when I asked my husband to taste test, they fell apart on the fork. 🙂 Served it with boursin mashed potatoes and steamed baby carrots with honey, and it was a huge hit. Thank you so much for sharing!

Can I use canned pork gravy ? I don’t have any of the dry gravy packets , except for brown gravy.
Also I don’t have any cornstarch, is that a must or can it go without ?

    Reply

    1. I suppose you could but I’ve never made it that way so I honestly couldn’t tell you how it will turn out. Perhaps someone else on here has and can let us know how it went.

    2. Do you think beef broth would work okay in this recipe? my son is allergic to chicken.

      Reply

      1. Beef could be a tad strong in flavor. You could use vegetable broth though.

  7. We have a larger family. Can this recipe be doubled? if so how does that change the cooking time?

    Reply

    1. It could be doubled, but I’ll be honest, I have not tried it so I can’t give you timing. I don’t like to guess unless I’ve tried it myself. Just make sure you are using a large enough slow cooker so these cook evenly. Perhaps someone else has doubled it and can give us an idea about timing 🙂

I am making this for dinner tonight and we can’t wait to try it. Something different, ya know. Instead of the same ol’ same ol’. The only thing that I will be adding is some fresh ground pepper to the chops and some fresh thyme to the “gravy” mixture since I have an abundance of it in my little terracotta pot.

We had this for dinner tonight. I used 4 one-half inch thick boneless chops. Cooked them in the crock pot on low for 4-1/2 hours, added the cornstarch and cooked on high for 30 minutes. It turned out beautifully and delicious with perfect gravy. I served with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everyone loved it! Going on my “dinner’s list.”
