3 Things to Know Before You Buy Costco Contact Lenses (2024)

If you’ve considered buying contact lenses from Costco Optical, you may have seen the Kirkland Signature lenses on the retailer’s website and wondered if they’re worth it.

I recently purchased the Kirkland Signature daily disposable contacts and will share my review in this article.

I’ve worn monthly contact lenses for the last 25 years. But I recently switched to daily disposable contacts at the recommendation of my doctor. (I know they’re more expensive!)

I tried 1-Day Acuvue Moist and the Kirkland Signature (MyDay) lenses — and preferred the Costco contact lenses.

In this article, I’ll share who makes Costco’s contacts, how much they cost and how the ordering process works. Here’s what you need to know before you buy!

1. Who Makes Costco’s Contact Lenses?

When I first learned about Costco’s Kirkland Signature contact lenses, I wanted to know who makes them.

Obviously, Costco doesn’t have its own contact lens factory. Like other Kirkland Signature products, the contact lenses are manufactured by a leading name brand.

At my last eye exam, I asked my doctor who makes Costco’s contact lenses. He told me this:

Costco’s Kirkland Signature daily disposable contact lenses are made by CooperVision. The Costco lenses are the same as CooperVision’s MyDay lenses.

On my prescription pictured below, MyDay is listed as the brand and Kirkland is in parentheses.

This next picture shows the package of trial lenses that I got from my optometrist on the left and a package of Costco’s contact lenses on the right.

As you can see, the packaging for the individual lenses is identical.

2. How Much Do Costco’s Contact Lenses Cost?

Now that we’ve established that Costco’s Kirkland Signature daily disposable contact lenses are the same as CooperVision’s MyDay lenses, let’s take a look at the pricing for a 6-month supply.

3 Things to Know Before You Buy Costco Contact Lenses (3)

When I went to Costco.com, a box of 180 Kirkland Signature lenses sold for $117.99. There was an instant rebate of $35 available if you bought two boxes and $70 for four boxes.

I purchased two boxes of lenses ($117.99 each) and got the $35 promo offer. The final price came to $200.98.

Now, let’s see how that compares to the MyDay lenses…

When I went to 1-800 Contacts, I noticed that there are 90 lenses per box with MyDay, not 180 like Costco. For that reason, I needed four boxes instead of two to make the comparison fair.

At the time of this review, each box sold for $67.99. That’s a total of $271.96 for a 6-month supply.

This order of MyDay lenses from 1-800 Contacts was eligible for a $25 rebate, but not instant savings. You must print a form, mail it in and wait for a Visa prepaid card to be delivered.

With the rebate factored in, six months of MyDay lenses cost $246.96. That’s $45.98 more than Costco’s lenses.

Update: Costco now sells 90 lenses per box for its Kirkland Signature lenses, not 180. This is a change from when I purchased my lenses and initially wrote this review in 2020.

3. How Do You Order Costco Contact Lenses Online?

If you’ve decided to try out Costco’s Kirkland Signature daily disposable contact lenses, you can order them directly from Costco’s website.

Here’s a link to the Kirkland Signature lenses. From this page, you’ll enter the following information:

  • Contact lens prescription
  • Patient name
  • Patient date of birth
  • Doctor name
  • Clinic or practice name
  • City and state

To get your lenses faster, Costco recommends that you upload your prescription instead of having customer service call and verify it with your eye doctor’s office.

You can upload your prescription from the Costco.com page that I linked above.

Once you fill in the information and upload your prescription, you’ll head to the checkout page.

Costco’s website states that it accepts most vision insurance plans, but credit and debit cards are also accepted. Costco.com takes Visa, Mastercard and Discover — not American Express.

According to the screenshot below, a Costco membership is required to purchase the contacts.

You should expect to wait about five to seven business days for your lenses to be delivered, so it’s important to place your order well before you run out of lenses.

I placed my order on October 20, it shipped October 26 and was delivered on October 31.

Tips for Non-Costco Members

If you don’t have a Costco Wholesale membership, there are a couple of ways that you can still enjoy the savings on contact lenses:

  • Ask your eye doctor to price match. If you get a prescription for the Kirkland Signature lenses, your doctor may give you the MyDay lenses for the same price as Costco.
  • Use a cash back app or website. Forget about the Costco lenses and use Ibotta, Rakuten or TopCashBack to search reputable online sellers for deals on the name brand lenses.

In the past, I’ve used 1-800 Contacts, LensDirect, Lens.com and Contact Lens King to order contact lenses.

Final Thoughts

If you wear disposable daily contact lenses, you may be able to save money by purchasing Costco’s Kirkland Signature lenses instead of CooperVision MyDay lenses.

But it’s important that you don’t buy lenses just because Costco sells them — they have to be right for you.

Here’s my advice: At your next visit to the eye doctor, ask for a trial package of the Kirkland Signature (MyDay) lenses and maybe a couple more brands that your optometrist recommends.

Then, after testing out your trial lenses, make a decision based on both price and comfort.
